Design for Children

Book Design, Typography Design, Accessory Design

Part 1: Play and The Instinct Redesign
As a visual design instructor, I redesigned the book Design and the Play Instinct, by Paul Rand, to encourage children to learn and understand graphic design. The redesigned book looks playful and energetic. To keep the textbook’s rigor, I use a lot of structural rectangles. I created rich colors and exaggerated typography to make the book look more visually shocking and attract children’s attention. I recreated some of the corresponding pictures to allow children to understand the text information quickly. The interaction and playfulness between the images and text are enhanced through simple visual elements.

Part Two: Oops Typeface
The best way to learn graphic design is to try it. So I designed a set of hand lettering inspired by children’s favorite balloons. I use the design workshop to let children scale each letter to quickly make their favorite motto or short sentence composition and feel the fun of the design.
